Quotes
I take jazz classes, modern classes, and I love doing that instead of going to the gym. The gym is not very much fun.

I still dance. I still dance, probably three times a week, unless I'm working on a crazy job, and then I just don't have any free time at all. Right now, I definitely dance. I don't do ballet, because for me, it's kind of hard to look at myself dancing when I don't do it all day long, every day.

I came to act because I wanted to do lovely period dramas. Very Jane Austen. But I guess I have become more of an action girl. I have no complaints!

One day, I would very much like to be in a play. It would be so challenging because I am quiet as an actress. It would be a stretch for me to attempt stage acting, although when I was a dancer people always said I was more of an actress than a technician.

(about letters from fans from outside USA): Every time I receive a letter from anyone, I am surprised and honored, but knowing that people enjoy my work in countries I have never seen, is truly amazing.

I love the way dancers express their feelings through movement instead of with words. I would have enjoyed making silent films.

I really don't like to sing! I feel shaky and terrified.

(On her fight scenes in Serenity): They formulated a sort of a wushu/kung fu/kickboxing hybrid for me, that was suited to my body. Being a ballet dancer and the way I move and what's going to look good on me, and what's going to look realistic because I do a lot of fighting with big guys.

(on the River Tam sessions): I remember when I was trying to memorize it, I hadn't been in my LA apartment for a month. I was lying in bed trying to memorize the dialogue that I was going to shoot the next morning. I couldn't sleep that night going in and out of bad dreams and talking to myself. I got scared from trying to prepare for those emotional scenes. It was a hard night to get through, the words were powerful.

(when asked whether "The Nutcracker" is her favorite ballet): Yes. In America it is such a Christmas tradition. You don't have to love ballet to see it. It's the one time a year where an entire family will dress up and see a ballet.

My ideal role would be someone that Joss created – naturally. A girl like River in some ways. Damaged but special, lost but brave. Someone in love but this time not with her brother.

During the series [Firefly] it was frustrating to wear spandex shorts...

I think the thing I like about River is that she gets to be barefoot so much of the time. I don’t like shoes very much. But River is this amazing character, and I'm constantly amazed at all that crazy things I get to do. And the more things I mention, the more things she ends up doing, like I remember in the first episode I was thinking 'You know, I think really River needs a gun' and then by episode ten I got one. It was the captain’s gun.

If I could count on both hands and toes the number of times I've seen Dirty Dancing! I practiced all the moves in my mirror and I love that story. I even love the new one [Havana Nights] and I would be overjoyed to get to do a ballroom dancing project. I love how they take a shy girl who's not very sexy and who isn't very comfortable with herself and they turn her into this really confident, hot, little – she gets out there and she blossoms.
